NEW ZEALAND

HIGHLIGHTS OF NEW ZEALAND

If seeking a destination with ecological diversity, beautiful beaches, friendly people and vibrant culture, your destination of choice should be New Zealand. The country has a population of just over 4.5 million and is comprised of two main Islands – the North Island and the South Island along with over 600 other smaller Islands. There are four main population centers in New Zealand including the capital city, Auckland with over 1.5 million people, Wellington (over 400,000 people), Christchurch (396,000) and Hamilton (235,000). For first-time visitors to New Zealand, a great place to start your adventures is in the alluring city of Auckland. Auckland is one of the major hubs for international flights to New Zealand, and there’s a myriad of exciting activities for you to enjoy in the city and its immediate environs. Whether you choose to explore the New Zealand culture by visiting one of the many museums in the city, visit a local zoo with some unique species or sky walking over the magnificent city, you will not have a dull moment here! There is also a wide variety of accommodation options for you to choose from depending on your budget or style.

New Zealand sits on two tectonic plates – the Australian and Pacific. This explains the heightened geological activity in the country with volcanic activity and several geothermal or hot springs. New Zealand also has over 15,000 kilometers of coastline, and approximately 60% of the North Island and 20% of the South Island are mountains. New Zealand was first occupied by Maori people about 1000 years ago and only came under European influence when the Maori people signed a treaty with the British in 1840.
